The SmartCode is a positive solution for sprawling, unsustainable patterns of development. The SmartCode template is free to any municipality or urban design firm, but it must be calibrated for local character.

Announcing the
SmartCode Local Master Class

Sandy Sorlien is offering an intensive master class in SmartCode v9.0 calibration for small charrette-style sessions. Since 2004, Sandy has been editing the code for principal author Andrés Duany and DPZ & Co, while teaching and calibrating nationally and internationally. Interest in the SmartCode is booming and effective calibrators of the new version 9.0 template are wanted.

SmartCode Local is a hands on, site-specific three-day retreat, after which participants will know how to analyze urbanism, complete a Synoptic Survey, and calibrate the model SmartCode for local conditions. Each person will work on an individual calibration after the whole team explores and discusses the study area. The class is structured for up to 6 people who are already familiar with the SmartCode.

SmartCode Local Philadelphia: October 3-5, 2007

SmartCode Local Jamestown RI: June 18-20, 2008   REQUEST DETAILS HERE

The class is intended for:

  • municipal and county planners
  • urban designers
  • architects and landscape architects

  • obsessive, place-sensitive, travel-loving, eagle-eyed editors who are interested in a career in SmartCode calibration consulting, for which there is increasing need.
